Bayview Dual Diagnosis Program
The Bayview Dual Diagnosis Program (BDDP) offers psychiatric assessment and treatment to individuals with a developmental disability and mental health problems. BDDP is comprised of a 25 bed in-patient program and a community team that serves approximately 70 clients. We are a full inter-professional team, and offer a continuum of services including:
• Intake assessment
• Consultation
• Referral
• Psychiatric and inter-professional assessment
• Treatment
• Stabilization
• Transitional discharge
• Community follow-up
• Education for community partners
To meet the complex needs of the developmentally delayed population, we encourage and consider the involvement and cooperation of family, caregivers and physicians essential in providing a supportive network for our clients. It is our expectation that the family physician will continue to follow the client upon discharge from the hospital.
BDDP serves adults with a developmental disability and a mental health need who are age 16 and over, possessing an IQ of less than 70 and who are medically stable.
These individuals are commonly referred by Ministry of Community and Social Services (MCSS) agencies, Schedule 1 hospitals, families and schools within LHIN 12. A large percentage of our clientele have been diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disabilities as well as a range of psychiatric disorders, and many clients are unable to cope in a community setting due to complex or challenging behaviours.
To initiate the referral process, please contact Laurie Buttineau, our Community Team Clinical Coordinator, extension 2167, or one of our social workers, Marc Simpson at extension 2289, or Christopher Prete at extension 2519. They will discuss your support needs with you and, in some cases, make an assessment of your client in the community, and then send a package for referral should an admission to either our in-patient or out-patient programs be deemed necessary.
