Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program

The Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program is an identified Tertiary Mental Health service consisting of a 38 bed inpatient service and a Community Support Team which provides a range of mental health care for individuals living with a serious and persistent mental illness who are returning to a community residential setting.

Tertiary Care Mental Health services involve the provision of diagnostic and therapeutic care through highly specialized programs delivered by skilled clinical professionals. In mental health, tertiary care is provided to persons with serious, complex, and/or rare mental disorders who, by reason of specialized staff or facility needs, cannot be managed by resources available at primary or secondary levels of care.

The Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program (PSRP) specializes in the care of individuals with a severe and persistent mental illness. Diagnostically it includes schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorders, affective disorders including bipolar disorder and unipolar depression, and various disorders with an organic origin. Functional impairment related to the SMPI diagnosis may effect skills and ability to carry out important functions including work, education, parenting, activities of daily living etc. Programs and services are constructed to support individual skill development and maintenance.

The Psychosocial Rehabilitation is a therapeutic approach to care of mentally ill individuals that encourages each person to develop his/her fullest capacity through learning procedures and environmental supports.
