Risk Management
Risk management is an essential component of good management. It is proven that better decisions are made when supported by a systematic and disciplined approach to risk management. Risk management activities should be aligned with operational objectives at all levels of the organization as well as established strategic directions. Risk management should be integrated into informed decision-making and priority-setting and should become part of the day-to-day management of activities. The integration of risk management into decision-making must be supported by a corporate philosophy and culture that encourages everyone to manage risks and to communicate openly about risk. In evaluating options to respond to risk, a cost/benefit analysis should be conducted to ensure the benefits of taking action outweigh the costs of taking action and assesses the cost of ‘not taking action’. Note that every employee has a role to play in risk management.

Large scale CQI project teams are struck in response to issues bearing cross-divisional or cross-departmental impact or have hospital-wide implications. The PS/QI Coordinator can be reached at ext. 2003.
